New Super Mario Bros. Wii: World 8-5 & 8-6

Make money with gdi The fifth and sixth levels of Bowser’s Volcano, the eighth World of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, are shown here. The fifth level is somewhat similar to the first level of World 8, except the fifth level is auto-scrolling, and you’re on a platform for most of the level. After clearing 8-5, I inserted footage from my first playthrough of the level to show you how to get that pesky second Star Coin. As I noted in my narration, you really only have one chance at it. 8-6 is actually really fun …

Nintendo: Wii price cut drove sales up 85%

Nintendo tells the San Francisco Chronicle that sales of the Wii were up 85 percent week-to-week following the September price drop . The Chronicle’s piece is mostly an examination of Nintendo’s challenges in staying top console for a fourth Christmas in a row, with expectations that the console will have plenty of stock available this holiday for the first time since release. The Wii may not have the explosive sales that it’s maintained for the last few years, but Nintendo is still swimming in cash . Perhaps a slowdown in Wii sales can be seen as a good thing — we know how Nintendo loves to introduce hardware revisions when the going gets tough slower . Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines review (PSP)

Make money with gdi The second portion of our Assassin’s Creed special. This segment covers the the brand new PSP version of Assassin’s Creed that bridges the gap between the first and second game.

Serious Sam has a warm place in the hearts of PC gamers as something of a bastard child of Duke Nukem . He’s a character with all the attitude of Duke with none of the hopes of doing anything other than blowing the holy hell out of everything he sees. Serious Sam was something of an anachronism when it was released back in 2001, but now the gameplay mechanics feel positively ancient. Don’t worry though, that’s a very, very good thing. Serious Sam HD may seem like a lazy port on paper, but it’s everything you remember, with a brand new layer of polish.

Pick of the week: Avatar The Game (PC, DS, Wii, PS3, 360) With the majority of the big holiday blockbusters already on store shelves, this week’s pick falls on a licensed title, based on James Cameron’s upcoming film Avatar . The game will be hitting most platforms—though strangely the PSP seems to be left out—and our early hands-on time with the Wii and 360 versions left us fairly impressed. Supporting 3D technology (360, PS3) and the balance board (Wii), the game was able to rise from generic, albeit great-looking, movie-licensed game, to something we’re actually excited about. Let’s hope the final product lives up to those expectations. Also hitting retail this week: DiRT 2 finally comes to the PC; Capybara Games’ puzzle/strategy/RPG hybrid Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes hits the DS; and Bethesda’s “character-driven, first-person shooter” Rogue Warrior comes to the PC, PS3, and 360. Read on for the complete list.

Sorry, challengers! Modern Warfare 2 , Assassin’s Creed 2 and New Super Mario Bros. Wii have again landed the top three slots (respectively) on the UK charts, and it looks like they’ve settled in for a long winter’s nap. MW2 is in its third week at the top, while Italian buddies Ezio and Mario are celebrating their second week , according to GfK . We’re not sure if anything will be able to unseat these three before the holidays but, if history is any indication, NSMBW might as well build a summer cottage in the top 10. Modern Warfare 2, Mario, Assassin’s Creed 2 still running the UK charts originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 30 Nov 2009 10:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Read
