If you’re bored with your black or electric blue DSi and looking to trade-over to one of the newly released white or pink models , your DSiWare purchases won’t be able to make the journey. Australian site Nintendo Life has confirmed that, with the exception of a broken handheld, purchases made from the DSi Shop are permanently “locked” to the system they’re downloaded onto. Unlike Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP there’s no method for transferring the rights to downloaded software from one machine to another by the end user. In fact, Nintendo Australia informed the site that, should a DSi break and its owner want its DSiWare moved to a new unit, both must be mailed in to Nintendo, which will perform the process. We’ve asked Nintendo of America if it has a similar policy for what should be a matter of a simple phone call to de-authorize one DSi and authorize another to download content you’ve already paid for. We’re anticipating a “yes” in response. Then again, as GameSpot points out, NOA’s end user license states “software downloaded from Nintendo DSi Shop is licensed to you, not sold.” Pays to read the fine print. Snap Judgment: Dead Space Extraction

When we review a game without finishing it, we call it a Snap Judgment. Read why here . Time played: 3 hours I’m personally a big fan of on-rails shooters, a genre that I think rarely gets its due. I’m not all that big on exploration, and I’m lazy, so having someone else take the reigns for me is a welcome relief, allowing me to focus on the all-important business of murder. So it’s quite a treat to see a game like Dead Space Extraction that strikes a blow for lazy guys everywhere by finding the strengths of the genre and running with them. With the third installment of Telltale’s Tales of Monkey Islan d series, it feels like the developers are finally hitting their stride. While the first two episodes— Launch of the Screaming Narwhal and The Siege of Spinner Cay —were enjoyable in their own right, Lair of the Leviathan once again improves on the winning formula. It’s short, sweet, and packed with plenty of laughs and puzzles. In fact, it feels almost like the gaming equivalent of watching a great television show: right down to the “previously on” introduction and the cliff-hanger endings. Lair of the Leviathan follows mighty pirate Guybrush Threepwood in his continued attempt to locate Lesponga Grande, a mystical sea sponge that can rid the caribbean of a terrible voodoo pox. Unfortunately for Threepwood, he’s forced to team up with pirate hunter Morgan LeFlay, who, in addition to being his biggest fan, is also after the bounty on his head. Not to mention the fact that she cut off his hand. So it’s under these circumstances that Threepwood finds himself swallowed whole by a giant manatee.

If you preordered Halo 3: ODS T at certain retailers, you received a code that allowed you to play as Sgt. Johnson in Firefight mode. Is that a big deal? Nah, but it’s still nice to have another character to choose from when jumping online. If you didn’t get a code, well, we might be able to get your back. We have five codes from a generous Arsian who wants to spread the love around. How do you win one? Just send an e-mail to Giveaways@arstechnica.com with the subject line “I need more Johnson in my life.” We’ll choose the winners randomly, and send the codes directly. Enjoy!

Those hoping to see one of the Wii’s most popular WiiWare titles, the enchanting LostWinds and its upcoming sequel LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias , on the Xbox 360 and/or PlayStation 3 once their respective motion controllers launch next year may have to be disappointed. In an upcoming interview with TVGB, game industry legend and founder of UK-based developer Frontier Developments David Braben said that while both Project Natal and Sony’s motion controller “look to be really promising additions to those platforms,” Frontier will not be porting their titles over just for the sake of having their games on these systems. “One of the key strengths of LostWinds is its appropriateness for the Wii and its controller … We wouldn’t port LostWinds just for the sake of it,” Braben told us, adding,”whatever we may do for Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 would have to be appropriate for the audience and the platform.” Frontier for now is focused on finishing Winter of the Melodias for WiiWare, which they’re hoping to launch in October, but since they do have “a whole host of other great game ideas,” perhaps the PS3 and 360 may see a new Frontier-developed title yet. Be sure to check back later today for the full interview!

The 200+ Game Crazy stores expected to close by the end of October will begin a liquidation sale, starting this weekend. Locations expected to shutter have received boxes and a list of items that are to be sent back for redistribution, which allegedly includes “all systems, major first party accessories (controllers, memory, etc).” The “majority” of games released within the last year will be also be sent out, “both new and used.” Several employees have commented that closing stores will likely be “pretty bare” by the time the sale starts. The timetable for the liquidation, corroborated by several sources: 10/3-10/11: 30% off everything in the store 10/12-10/18: 50% off everything in the store 10/19-Closing: 80% off everything in the store There doesn’t seem to be a consistent date for when the stores will close, but we haven’t heard of any location staying open beyond October 27. We continue to work on getting a master list of which stores are closing, as well as a list of items sent back for redistribution. Request for official comment from Game Crazy corporate on several issues, including what customers with pre-orders at closing stores should do, have gone unanswered. If you’re a Game Crazy employee with more details, please feel free to contact us *. *Tips will remain confidential, please leave a valid email address in case we have further questions. Thank you! Update 2 : If you know of specific locations closing, click here . Update : Adjusted liquidation dates slightly following new information.
