In the past, Peter Moore has hinted at the tenuous relationship between the company he helms (EA Sports) and Nintendo’s three-DVD-wide home console (the Wii). Yesterday, the leader of the highly athletic development studio fully acknowledged EA Sports’ lackluster sales performance on the Wii in an interview with Eurogamer , stating, “when I look at the attach rate on the Wii of our software to where I think we should be, we’re under-performing still, we need to do much better.” Moore is hoping to claim a few extra slices of that sweet Wii pie with the studio’s upcoming MotionPlus-infused sports titles, Tiger Woods 10 and Grand Slam Tennis . Of course, we can’t have a story about Mr. Moore without one of his trademarked Awesomely Ostentatious Quotes: “Those two titles couldn’t come at a better time for us, nor for Nintendo quite frankly.” Oh, yeah . That one’s going up on the fridge. Peter Moore says EA Sports is ‘under-performing’ on the Wii originally appeared on Joystiq Nintendo on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 23:00:00 EST. Though its highly anticipated, National Treasure meets Duke Nukem shooter The Conduit has yet to hit store shelves, High Voltage Software is already teasing the big E3 reveal of two new Wii-exclusive titles. According to French gaming site Nintendo Master’s recent interview with Voltage’s Eric Nofsinger, the developer is cranking out another FPS (one with even stronger visual tech than The Conduit ), and another title which is “a different kind of a thing.” You know what that means? As you probably already know, the latest issue of Nintendo Power blows the doors off of the recently announced sequel to the Wii’s slightly disappointing, sword/gun-toting FPS launch title, Red Steel . Now that the mag has landed in a few quivering, anticipatory hands, more details about Red Steel 2 are beginning to surface. First and foremost, the title will apparently be cel-shaded — hinted at by the sole piece of concept art we received yesterday, and confirmed by a number of scans which are beginning to creep onto the internets. Also, we recently got confirmation from Nintendo Power itself that the game will be “Wii MotionPlus exclusive,” a phrase we can only interpret to mean “you need a MotionPlus dongle to play it.” (Are you guys comfortable with calling it a dongle? That’s such a lovely word. Don-gle .) We’ll let you know when we hear even more facts about the game. And by facts, we don’t mean “my brother’s girlfriend’s sister’s stepmom goes to a beauty parlor where she read about Red Steel 2 while waiting for her bouffant to dry.” [Thanks, Fernando Rocker!] Red Steel 2 is MotionPlus exclusive, cel-shaded originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 21:00:00 EST. We’ve known a sequel to EA’s Boom Blox was on the way, but now we know the date: Boom Blox Bash Party is coming to the Wii on May 19. I have already drawn a little block with the face of a monkey on my calendar, and I suggest you do the same. Why the enthusiasm? Boom Blox remains one of the best Wii titles yet released on the system. I don’t say that lightly, but everyone I’ve introduced to the game has fallen in love. It’s a wonderful title that anyone can pick up and play. It uses the Wii controls without being incredibly annoying about it. The single-player offers a ton of neat game play ideas, and the multiplayer is pure crack. If you haven’t played the original, do yourself a favor and give it a shot. The sequel features more modes, more puzzles, and hopefully even more fun. If you haven’t read our preview from GDC, this is a good excuse to check it out . Is anyone else as excited as I am about this news?

The Wii no Ma Channel , Nintendo’s own ad-supported video service, starts in Japan tomorrow. Nintendo seems to think pretty highly of its creation — not only did president Satoru Iwata record a 25-minute speech about the service, but Nintendo reportedly sent translations of Iwata’s speech to some English-language sites. This unusual practice has us thinking we could see our own version of the Wii no Ma Channel soon. Iwata’s presentation offered a few details on the new service. According to Eurogamer’s summary , Nintendo will begin the service with only a small amount of original content, but that Japanese broadcasters now see the service as “not hostile” and will provide content soon. “It might seem unprecedented to launch a video broadcasting service with such limited programs,” said Iwata about the approach (which should be familiar to users of the Virtual Console or WiiWare), “but from other viewpoint, it turns out that good programs can easily stand out. We are going to increase it gradually.” The advertising portion, relegated to an area inside the channel’s living room houseplant, presents 12 screens to the viewer, allowing viewers to choose the advertising and offers they see, rather than interrupting programming for ads. This is the part of the service that allows coupons to be sent to the DSi. Other events happening in the room include visits from celebrity Mii “concierges” — like Einstein, seen above. Viewers can rate and recommend these visits to friends, who can experience them via the Wii Message Board. More screens of the service are available at the Wii no Ma site. MAG , or Massive Action Game for those with an acronym aversion, is coming this year to the Playstation 3 and if this trailer is any an indication it’s going to be big. 256 man teams big. You looking for some squad-based action? They’ve got that. How about tanks, SAM (surface-to-air missiles, sorry again microphobes) sites, air strikes and all other forms of wartime epicness all controlled by real live humans? Well they’ve got that too. This trailer coupled with these 15 new screens below are just enough for you to actually envision what it will be like to play a MMOFPS. And on a console no less!

Rhythm Heaven ‘ s “Love Lab” game has just about everything: a sweet melody, romantic sunsets, vague science , ominous bear-suited guys … everything but lyrics . Dale North decided that the vocalizations in the existing song didn’t do enough to tell the story of two researchers who spend their days shaking up love potions and pouring the resulting mixture into a bag, and so he recorded his own lyrics. “I hope she likes my safety goggles,” the super -literal lyrics to North’s version read, “because the chemistry between us two is made by throwing little bottles.” You can hear the song, and see the adorable animated video made to go along with it, after the break.
