Are gaming enthusiasts really more prone to crime?

Not many people give much thought to whether video games are really of any benefit to the gamers playing them. For many, games are no more than just juvenile flights of fancy that could very well lead to brain rot, or may even contribute to the degradation of a person’s IQ, or even to the growing crime rate perpetrated by young people often thought to be avid gamers. While it is true that there are indeed a lot of gamers nowadays, both young and seasoned, that download free games, it is hardly fair to simply lump them all in with the growing problem of criminality and useless people that line up for welfare and chose not to work just to play.
There are actually good things to be had from playing video games, be they arcade games in commercial centers with friends and other gaming enthusiasts, or puzzle games that a person can play at home in the comfort and privacy of their personal computer. Addictive games played on different gaming consoles are, to a certain extent, regulated according to their content and appropriate age limit. While it is true that some games may contain some graphic violence and questionable modes of play, these come with a thorough warning and are not carelessly peddled to any child that wishes to play the newest video games. Blaming video games and arcade games for the influencing kids to be violent and have criminal tendencies is like blaming pharmacies for the problem of substance abuse and drug addiction of people as a whole, it is just baseless, prejudicial, and totally ignorant of the real issue.
What more people should really consider is the fact that most arcade are within commercial centers that have security guards ensuring peace and order within the area. If gamers, be they kids or even not-so-young gaming enthusiasts are in the video game arcade, then they are far from doing any crime, and the same can be said for those who download free games and choose to play it within the privacy of their own homes. Them being in front of the gaming console means they are not outside engaging in criminal activities and other such negative notions that have been unfairly attached and associated with those who have shown a preference for video games.
